  2. AssignPrefs V1.04: Assigns Preferences
  3. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  5.   This is the latest public release of my new Assigns preferences program.
  6. It belongs in your Preferences drawer, along with all your other Prefs
  7. programs, and allows you to add, delete, or modify assigns in your system
  8. at any time. Operation is pretty straightforward: just click on "Add"
  9. on the Assign side to add an assign, and "Add" on the destination side
  10. to point the new assign where it belongs. Also, dragging a disk or drawer
  11. icon into the window will cause a new destination to be added, if you
  12. wish. And for those among us who are forgetful (I think that includes
  13. me, but I don't quite remember), a comment field is included so you can
  14. remember what assign belongs to what program.

  16.   When saved, AssignPrefs will not only save the assigns to ENVARC:, but
  17. will also place an icon in your WBStartup drawer to enable the system to
  18. automatically perform your assigns upon a reboot. Multiple assigns are
  19. supported, although deferred and path assigns are not. If you need that
  20. stuff, break down and use the Shell. :-)

  22.   The Shell template for AssignPrefs ("USE/S,PUBSCREEN/K") allows you
  23. to load and use the default assigns and specify the public screen upon
  24. which to open, respectively. The USE parameter lets you simply load
  25. and use the default assigns, rather than bringing up the window (very
  26. similar to CX_POPUP=NO for Commodities). The PUBSCREEN tooltype allows
  27. you to specify any public screen you wish the program to use.

  32.   AssignPrefs is CollegeWare! As much as I hate to grovel like this, I
  33. will soon be unable to continue writing software if my present financial
  34. condition remains as it has. I really, really want to continue writing
  35. great and useful software for the Amiga, and I've begun to set my sights
  36. higher than mere small utilities. But I definitely do not have enough
  37. time to balance an engineering curriculum, a part-time job, and
  38. programming into any remotely realistic schedule. I'd much rather stay
  39. home and program than work at a convenience store in Philadelphia. :)

  41.   With your support, I'll be able to continue writing great Amiga
  42. software. I have some GREAT ideas for the future (almost all of them
  43. AGA-related in some way), but I need you to make it happen! A small
  44. donation (heck, if ten people send $10, I may break even with Bell of PA!)
  45. would be very much appreciated. Come on folks! I know this utility isn't
  46. one that you use constantly; that's the point. It's supposed to be a
  47. convenience, and that's gotta be worth something to you.

  86. of. Personally, it's my favorite magazine because it covers all the bases
  87. that the average Amiga user needs. I've asked Denny Atkin, the editor, for
  88. some information on it so I could pass it on to you. But trust me on this:

  93.   We're a special edition of COMPUTE Magazine includes everything you find
  94. in the newsstand edition of COMPUTE (which is mostly PC-oriented, although
  95. there are a number of things of interest to Amiga users such as monitor
  96. and printer reviews, as well as industry articles), and a special 32-page
  97. all-Amiga section.

  99.   Among our regular monthly columnists are such well-known Amiga names as
  100. Sheldon Leemon, Jim Butterfield, Mark R. Brown, Oran J. Sands, Mike
  101. Nelson, Peggy Herrington, Steven Worley, Nick Sullivan, and Chris Zamara.
  102. Other writers who've recently done features for the Amiga section of
  103. COMPUTE include Mike Sinz, Dave Haynie, Mort Kevelson, David Sears, and

  107. select newsstand outlets, including Software Etc., CompUSA, and BizMart,
  108. as well as some Amiga dealers such as Creative Computers.
